E Tipu 2022 is joined by primary sector science, technology and innovation champions

Three champions of science, technology and innovation join the speaker lineup at E Tipu 2022, helping shape the future of Aotearoa's primary industries.

Dr. Louise Hennessy (Ngāti Maniapoto) is a scientist and early career ambassador with AgResearch. Louise is passionate about agricultural science and drives efforts to encourage more rangatahi into the realm of natural sciences.

She is currently working to create opportunities for rangatahi to bring fresh perspectives and bolster mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori in this space. At E Tipu 2022, she’ll be speaking on her own journey into agricultural science and growing the primary sector talent pipeline.

Also joining the summit lineup is CarbonCrop Chief Technology Officer, Nick Butcher. Nick is an engineer and entrepreneur with a passion for the potential of artificial intelligence. He’s interested in how AI can be used to untangle the most complex issues we're all facing in the domains of energy, climate, mobility, biodiversity, food security and general human intelligence/decision augmentation.

In 2020 Nick founded CarbonCrop. Following an extremely successful first year in New Zealand, CarbonCrop is now expanding globally, looking to further cement Aotearoa’s position as a leader in the global climate response.

Joining Nick and Louise live on the summit stage is Dr. Laura Domigan. A protein biochemist by training, Dr. Laura Domigan started her research group at the University of Auckland in 2015, working to develop protocols for growing cell-based meat in the lab. In October  2020,  she led a team to win a multi-million dollar grant from the New Zealand and Singaporean governments to further explore cultured meat.

Laura works as a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland and was recently appointed a member of the Science Board, established to enable New Zealand research organisations to conduct high-quality research that creates economic, social and environmental benefits for Aotearoa.
