Tim Brown

Co-founder, Allbirds

Tim Brown is a former All Whites Captain and Wellington Phoenix Midfielder, and the Co-founder of Allbirds — a billion-dollar, B Corp-certified footwear and apparel company.

Tim is the creative vision behind Allbirds, with an eye for all things design. His experience as a World Cup soccer player for New Zealand led him to think about things on a grand scale, whether that be crafting shoes or running a business. He's constantly driven by the desire to do things better. For him, it’s not about the specific product or sport, it’s about the meaning and intention behind it.

Raised in Aotearoa New Zealand, Tim Brown has always been well-versed in the qualities of merino wool. During his football career, he began asking himself why such a remarkable, sustainable resource was virtually absent in the footwear industry. And with that curiosity, the Allbirds journey began.

Teaming up with engineer and renewables expert Joey Zwillinger, Tim created a revolutionary wool fabric specifically designed for footwear. This breakthrough resulted in a new category of shoes inspired by natural materials and a commitment to creating better products in a better way. Tim earned a BS in Design from the University of Cincinnati before playing professional soccer, followed by a Master’s in Management from the London School of Economics.
