Maury Leyland

Co-founder, Leaft Foods

 

Maury is Co-founder of Leaft Foods, a purpose driven business determined to make a transformational shift in the way we farm and produce food.  She and her husband (and Co-founder) John Penno also have a diversified farm in North Canterbury where she is involved in both setting the direction and working on the farm day to day with her sheepdog, Belle.

Maury is a person who lives her values, and this is seen in her professional endeavours. In addition to running Leaft Foods, Maury is Co-chair of Te Kākahu Kahukura — an initiative with a vision to recloak the Port Hills of Ōtautahi with native forest.  She is also founding Chair of The Education Hub, a non-profit organisation focused on bridging the gap between research and practice in school level education.

Maury has previously been a director of Genesis Energy, Spark New Zealand and Transpower New Zealand, and was on the Lincoln University Transformation Board. Maury was a senior executive at Fonterra with roles across strategy, people and culture and supply chain.  She had earlier worked as a strategy consultant for The Boston Consulting Group and was a member of the design team for Team New Zealand during the successful 1995 America's Cup campaign.

She holds a BE (Hons) in Engineering Science from University of Auckland, is a Fellow of the Engineering New Zealand, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand.
